The L TOWER - What a SEXY Boot!

Calling all shoe loversSexy | Fun | Original | Out of the Ordinary | Unique

OVERVIEW:

Toronto could soon become a Mecca for shoe fetishists everywhere with the building of a new skyscraper called the L Tower.

Supposedly a letter L, the tower designed by architect Daniel Libeskind (guess where the L bit of the towers name comes from) its more reminiscent of a sexy, knee high, platform boot.

LOCATION:  Yonge St/Front St

MAP OF AREA:

HISTORY:

The tower will be a reinvention of the old Hummingbird Centre which stood on the site at 1 Front Street. It will house 480 luxury condominiums over 57 storeys, which will offer residents stunning panoramic views of the city.

The tower will stand on a podium that could be described as boxy but is saved by a large circular cut out which makes the podium look like the toe and heel of the boot. From here it rises upwards in sleek lines before at its peak the front of the tower curves back onto the straight back of the tower again saving it from being a boring box type structure. It will have a glass and steel façade which will allow the inside workings of the tower to be observed from street level.

The design of the tower has been criticised by some, many feeling safer being surrounded by dull, boring box type towers, but fortunately no one is really listening to the naysayers and the tower appears to be being fully embraced by the more adventurous tower dweller. With over 400 of the condominiums already sold, the old woman who lived in a shoe better get a wiggle on if she wants to upgrade.

If the lure of living in a giant sexy boot isn’t persuasive enough it can probably be taken for granted the tower will host the usual fun things like pools and gyms just to make handing over the hard earned cash a bit easier. There’s no word yet on whether Jimmy Choo will grab the obvious marketing opportunity and have a headline store there.

OCCUPANCY:

First occupancy of the tower has been given the rather specific date of November 30th 2010 and penthouses will cost up to 2.5 million Canadian dollars.
