River City Condos

RIVER CITY || Every so often a development comes along that sets a new course for living in our city || As the first phase of Toront’s new revitalized waterfront, River City is Toronto’s groundbreaer for the twnty first century. Setting the stage for the entire waterfront redevelopment that is now underway, it is about a new way of living, and a new style of living, unlike any other in Toronto. Welcome to a whole new way of living on Toronto’s new blue edge.

THE COMMUNITY || The first neighbourood of Toronto’s new revitalized waterfront || A $2 Billion, LEED GOLD Community containing over 6,000 residences along with cafes, boutiques and restaurants, all on tree-lined, pedestrain-oriented streets, it is where Waterfront Toronto together with forward thinking private developers are creating the ultimate urban community, one that will be a showcase for the entire waterfront development.

Toronto’s most spectacular urban park, right at your front door || At River City, Waterfront Toronto is today building what will be one of the largest parks in Toronto, and certainly its most beautiful designed, a $15 million, 18 acre urban oasis to be called Don River Park. A lush urban retreat of rolling hills, native woodlands, and open lawns, Don River Park will be a destination park for the entire city.

A unique urban space under the shelter of the overhead ramps || Probably the most innovative urban space that Waterfront Toronto is creating in West Don Lands today is Underpass Park, a 4 acre mixed use space tucked under the Richmond-Adelaide ramps. Running from Don River Park to the corner of Sumach Street and Eastern Avenue, this active recreation “park” will contain such uses as bocci courts and children’s playgrounds in areas under the ramp structures, as well as trees and community gardens planted in zones where the ramps open up. Waterfront Toronto is currently completing the design of Underground Park, which also includes a public art competitionn now underway. Construction of the park is slated to be finished in March 2011.

THE DESIGN || Design unlike anything else || Conceived by Montreal-based Saucier+Perrotte Architects, working together with Toronto-based ZAS Architects, River City will look like nothing else in Toronto. Neither typically modern nor in any way historical, Saucier+Perrotte’s design at River City will combine bold forms with inflected planes, dark panels with transparent glass, and raw materials with soft landscaping, all in ways that reflect the community’s unique surroundings.
